I get annoyed at the moment with loud fan noise (esp when watching video) and not being able to use Illustrator/Photoshop files without problems/slowness.

Would a new MBA be faster?

I only have 5gb hard drive space free - is this also a factor?

thanks.

upgrading ram (to 4 GB) and cleaning up the hard drive are the most cost-effective things you can do for improving your mac experience. (maybe even get a faster/bigger HD?) you should keep at least 15-20 percent of your HD free.

other than that, a new MBA will outperform your 2007 MBP in most disciplines.

THanks - my machine can only handle 2GB but I will spend some time sorting out my hard drive.

oh, right: only 2 GB RAM max. - that is a bottleneck for some tasks.

other than that, I am surprised how well "older" machines (like mine, early 2008 santa rosa) still run, even on Lion.
