I have a 17" PBG4 1.33ghz A1052 from 2003. I would like to know if I connect a 30" Cinema Display, will it show half the picture or simply a lower resolution whole picture? I'm interested in getting a 30" in my collection.

It will likely downscale the output resolution.

The PowerBooks G4 didn't receive dual-link DVI support until the Late '05 HR models (A1138/A1139).

That is incorrect, for PB 5.6 (1106) you could get DUAL_LINK DVI as BTO. PB5.7 (1107) had it as standard.
In short all PBs with 128MB VRAM have DUAL_LINK.

Won't help OP, but there is a chance that he will be offered a full resolution 30Hz mode (at least that seems to be the case with some MacMini and "weaker" G5s).

Apple 30" Cinema Displays only support 2560x1600@60Hz or 1280x800@60Hz. Maybe you are thinking of a different 2560x1600 or 1440 display?

*dunno* never had a 30" Cinema but I have seen at least 2 cases of people claiming to be running them at native res with HW that clearly lacks DualLink.

Doesn't bother me that much but I do run 2x 2560x1440 screens at 52Hz each on single link DVI to HDMI cables (not related to anything on topic, just to illustrate how odd things can get).
