Will a standard o2 tariff sim work with a 1.1.2 Uk phone without unlocking?

I know that it's looking pretty unlikely that there will be an unlock for the UK 1.1.2 phones in the the very near future.

I want to know if I had a regular o2 sim card (not on the mad priced iphone tariff), would it work with a jailbroken UK phone 1.1.2? Is the phone locked to the specific tariff or just o2???

Please help!
