Will an external ssd work well through an adapter?

I ordered a Mac book pro with touchbar and was wondering whether my external hdd and ssd (Samsung m3 and a Samsung t3) will work well through apple's official USB-c to USB adapter. Has anyone experienced any issues with external drives and adapters on the new MacBook pros ?

EDIT: I've been reading some other reviews of the adapter and some say they've been having issues trying to charge their iPhone 6/6s with the standard lighting to USB cable through this adapter, strange or has anyone had this issue too?
