AT&T Fiber has come to our neighborhood, and the price for 1 Gig down/up is about 3/4 the cost of our Xfinity cable service, which I believe promises 800 down/25 up. Since income here relies on a dependable internet connection, I've ordered AT&T to be installed while maintaining our Xfinity service to run a reliability test for a couple weeks. Our current service from Xfinity has been rock-solid for the last two years in Indianapolis, with only one outage of a few hours that I can recall. Supporting a probably average amount of devices, we have no buffering issues even when multiple TVs and computers and/or phones are in use. My only "complaint" if you want to call it that, is the relatively slow upload speed for backups and YouTube publishing mostly.
Our house has a hub in the master bedroom closet for all things techish: ethernet (cat 5e), phone, cable, alarm. The Broadcom XB7-T currently resides here and feeds both the ethernet switch and WiFi signal from this location. I will have the AT&T's Arris BGW320 installed in the same closet.
So I'm wondering if I will still be able to have both systems running at the same time in the same location - for convenience and for "head to head" tests, or will there be some interference?
FWIW, speeds according to Speedtest by Ookla are currently:
Ethernet, 2011 27" iMac - 936 down / 23 up, no VPN
Ethernet, 2011 27" iMac - 285 down / 22 up, NordVPN quickconnect
WiFi, 2021 16" MBP - 371 down / 24 up, no VPN
WiFi, 2021 16" MBP - 322 down / 22 up, Nord VPN quickconnect
Gateway on the same floor as computers, typical stick-built/drywall house construction. As I mentioned, no complaints about the download speeds, but synchronous upload speed would be nice.
