I am currently on OS 3.1.3
I am getting prompts to upgrade to OS 4.2

I am not fussed if it deletes the Cydia and the rest of whats installed with the Jailbreak as the memory is full and the battery goes too fast..

I just don't want to destroy the phone...

I tried to do a restore recently and itunes said that the phone was not eligible..

Cheers :)

What iphone and firmware are you trying to restore to? Do you have old SHSH files saved? And, that error message usual means you are trying to restore to a firmware Apple does not allow (only 4.2.1) or you are trying to restore with a firmware file made for a different iphone.

I have a 3GS.

I don't know what firmware it is, & I don't know what a SHSH file is.

If you don't have old SHSH files saved, you can only restore to 4.2.1 firmware (latest). Is that the firmware you are trying to restore to?

The current OS version and firmware can be found in Settings, under About. To briefly answer your question, yes, once the software is updated you will lose your jailbreak.

Thanks Ann P.

So the jailbreak will go, thats sweet - however will my contacts, msg's etc stay?

All fixed thanks guys :)

Just one more thing, my itunes is only removing songs as I untick them when I sync them.
Any songs I have added to my music library do not sync.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this?

Maybe, try unchecking "Sync only checked Songs and Videos" under the Summary tab.
