Well, Garmin just dropped their new watches.

And depending on if you are a golfer, a boat captain, a pilot, an explorer or an adventurer you will be paying $1900-2400 USD for those watches. And yes, the watch for walking around golf courses is the 2nd most expensive. With the way the things are built I'm assuming Garmin thinks you're playing golf in a war zone with bombs and bullets - needing the titanium, domed sapphire etc as you dive, roll and take cover in the sand bunkers repeatedly during play. I kid...

Along with all the other Garmin watches that are released every year - I think if anything this just shows me how far Apple can still go - pushing the cost and customization way, way farther. I don't know if that's a good thing or not? Posting this to try and generate some fun anecdotes and banter about the future of AW.

I think those are badass. I wouldn't spend $2k but maybe $1000 or so. Great maybe I need another watch ;). I wonder if these new Gamins have all of the rest of the smart watch stuff that apple has - Id guess not as they are really focused on the maps and exercise tracking. Those faces are 10x better than anything apple has ever offered.

All apple needs is some offline maps, and they would get 99% of the Garmin functionality that 99% of users actually use and want. The ultra already gets enough battery life for 99% of the users now. Offline maps and some better health and workout tracking with software upgrades and it would be set. All I need is the ability to have GPS maps without having celluar. Yes workoutdoors can give you some of that, but i don't want to spend a bunch of time downloading maps. I may try this eventually though. If apple offered some streamlined workout and maps, they would be a true game changer. They aren't even that far off.
