one of the only reason for me to jailbreak these days is using winterboard to theme... do you think that Apple will ever allow custom theme elements into iOS, even if themes had to be submitted to the App store and approved?

As iPhone buyers get more savvy about what competitors offer, Apple doles out additions to their own device.

Apple has also applied for patents dealing with customized homescreens.

So it would make sense for them to eventually add more options. They've relented a bit recently by allowing the menu page wallpaper.

Selling themes would also be a very lucrative addition to the App Store. It's a bit surprising that they haven't monetized the idea already.

That would be great!! But, I am not holding my breath. I sometimes think that Apple and the Dev team are in this together. I mean if apple did offer EVERYTHING cydia does. Then Jail-breaking would be irrelevant and so would the Dev team. :D

They will allow themes when they run out of good features. Apple deliberately likes to roll out standard features step by step to encourage people to upgrade. Half of the stuff on the iPhone 4 have been common features on other phones several years ago. On the other hand, Apple does have some really cool new features too, such as... well there are too many to list.

If they want to remain competitive they must .

Apple is about presenting a common easy to use UI that is stable and polished. They do not allow theming on OSX and they're not about to allow it on iOS which is even more locked down

Nope, nor should they. It's ridiculous. Even the best hacks to do so are the worst pieces of **** code ever distributed to anyone.

nobody will be able to answer this question, sorry. one thing you can count on is that if they end up allowing themes it isn't going to be anytime soon.

...

I hate people sometimes.

Apple has never officially supported "themes" on any of its products, and iOS will be no different. Customized home screens are different than themes. Apple has always been about a consistent user interface across multiple devices, and theming will not be officially supported.

I'm from the future too, but from this universe.

apple will not introduce themes, as it would mean that some icon's are customised and others are not (like any winterboard theme) running the image of the handset.

it would take far too long for developers to develop icons for all of the thousands of apps in the app store

Sure probably once people learn how to spell and not mispell easy words such as your mistake ending in "eing" I see it all the time, misspelling words like "liveing" and "timeing" sheesh! Pick up a dictionary people

While I agree with you, a primary rule of the Internet is that anytime you correct someone's spelling, your own post will itself have a mistake.

That's "misspell". (You got it right the second time.)

Hopefully not. All third party themes are horrendously ugly.

Except for that one that turns the phone into a laser guarded steel vault lined with chrome football helmets and a chick in a bikini on a yellow motorcycle.
