Why did they discontinue it in the first place? To force us to buying their new LE monitors or have a second thought on getting a Mac mini?

Will Apple ever make an exnternal iSight again?

Sorry I didn't notice I posted this twice. I had an internet connection problem and didn't know if it went through when I clicked subbmit. You mods can delete this thread but the the other one.
The external iSight didn't sell all that well and then doomed when the laptops and iMacs came with built in webcams. Add to that, firewire only interface and incompatible with non-Apple machines. Then there's the price. 
AFAIK the external iSight also fell short of some mercury content level laws or similar in the EU, effectively making it illegal to sell them over here.

They were pulled due to a lead issue. The fact they opted not to make a new one is most likely due to the inclusion of the iSights in most of their lineup.
