Do you think Apple will release a full fledged standalone 1Password / Bitwarden / LastPass alternative app for macOS and iOS in the coming release, or is that too risky for them? Ie sherlocking and angering too many big and powerful developers?

Me personally am hoping for something in-house from Apple that's better than their current solution in Monterey and iOS 15, so I can finally ditch 1Password.

Keychain works perfectly well within the Apple ecosystem.
Apple doesn’t care much for people and devices outside of the ecosystem.
If that is what you need to make it “fully fledged“ then you are probably out of luck.

Keychain is difficult to access, it is either through system settings or Safari preferences. Not very easy or elegant. Safari autofill is very hit and miss, especially with 2FA. I'm hoping they're doubling down on Password management in the next releases.

I don't think they would have moved the Passwords management out of Safari and into System Preferences if they were planning to do a standalone app. They would have gone direct from Safari to the standalone app.

It's still available in Safari preferences. Maybe they're testing the waters by making it more accessible (albeit not by much) through system preferences?
