He means that if they will release an iPhone with the iPhone 4 hardware in an iPhone 3GS case. They had such prototypes. I'm going to go with No.

What's a "backup iPhone?"

If you have a look around you'll find reference to another model number that was found in the 4.0 beta builds that was deemed to be a backup model in case the new model wasn't finished in time or had too many hardware flaws.

Sorry I'm not in the searching mood.

No need. That answer is more than sufficient.

:)

I vote no.

People have already seen, smelled and touched the new ip4. I don't think they'll have people clamoring for one that looks just like a 3GS, no matter what's inside it.

Not right now, anyway.

And it'd be like saying "our design sucked."

If there backup iPhone looks anything like the 3GS I'm keeping my 4, plus I don't have any problems with my iPhone 4

Wow, really? It's interesting but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the product I have sitting on my desk at the moment. In that case, no. It would be yet another admission that something is wrong with the iPhone 4, not just 5 or 6 of the hundreds of billions sold (what I expect Apple will say tomorrow), and given apple's track record, that'll never happen.

I get a full 5 bars at my work (I think there's a tower near by). I tried to get the bars to drop by giving it the death grip. I got it to drop 2 bars (giving me 3 bars), then it went back up to 4 bars and stayed there, while still holding it. Like I said I have excellent coverage at my work. I haven't tried it at my house were my coverage is bad.

I hope not. After getting used to the iPhone 4, my 3gs feels like a child's toy.

I couldn't agree more. I picked up my 3GS the other day; it's huge, wide, cheap feeling, and just all-around inferior to the iPhone 4. The buttons on it feel so chintzy along with the chrome bezel! There's no way this would happen. Sales would just DROP. Plus, what about the new cameraS and such? No possible way.

I just removed my Candyshell and ran a little test on mine. For the record, my coverage has always sucked here at work.

Started with three bars. Opened Safari and selected my bank website from bookmarks, waited for it to start loading and placed my thumb over the seam. Immediately the progress bar froze, bars dropped from three to one to searching, popup tells me it can't load the page because there's no internet connection. Release thumb, hit reload, bars climbed back to four and page loaded fine.

Second round I selected Macrumors. Bar progressed pretty quickly but again immediately froze when I put my thumb on the seam. Bars again dropped away to searching in less than ten seconds.

Seems I'll be keeping my Candyshell on.
