Hi,

I have 2016 Macbook and one of the key is not responding well.
Also my battery wear level is around 80-81%.
I wonder if Apple will replace the whole top case including the battery for Retina Macbook the same way with MBP 2016?
If not, then I better ask them to replace the battery and pay only the battery replacement fee.

Thanks in advance

It is my understanding that the battery gets replaced too, since it is part of the top case. This is the same thing that is done with many refurbished devices.

no, the battery will not be replaced. The battery of the 12 macbooks are not a part of the top case only the macbook pros are.
I am 100% sure coz i have both 13 macbook pro 2016 n 12 macbook 2016 keyboard replaced n only the pros battery got replaced

See, I was told that the battery WILL be replaced when the keyboard goes down and gets replaced.

Check out the iFixIt teardowns. The battery of the 12" Macbook is not in the top case with the keyboard. It's glued to the bottom case. So when they replace the top case to get a new keyboard, the battery is not replaced.

On the Macbook PRO, it's the opposite. The battery is glued to the top case with the keyboard.

Just got mine back from the Apple Store for screen and keyboard (top case) replacement. Confirmed that the battery did not get replaced. Like others mentioned, it is separated from the top case, different from MacBook Pros.

This is just a question - will they replace the screen and keyboard even if the rMB is not displaying any of the symptoms e.g., repeating keys / discoloration from screen?
