As you can see, there's a narrow gash where my right wrist would usually rest. Dust can easily get into this hole, which worries me, and I don't want to duct tape it.

I know for a fact that I didn't cause this. I'm pretty sure that the MacBook lid, which has those two protruding things on the top left and right caused it, because those things look like they actually hit the case when you close the lid.

Other than that I don't know how else it'd be caused other than taking a screwdriver to it.

Will Apple cover it or will they think I somehow caused this to happen? I'd like to get opinions before I make the long trek to an Apple Store.
 
Yes, AppleCare will cover this. There is a structural flaw with the top of the lower casing, which is outlined in several other threads on these forums. Just search and ye shall find.

I had this same problem with a Blackbook that I owned, and I literally shipped, was repaired, and returned to me in three days total. Now that is great :apple: service :):)
 
Thanks a ton. I'm so relieved, I'll be heading to the Apple Store to get it taken care of tomorrow.
