iPad Will Applecare (old, not plus) work with IPad Air?

I have an unused/unopened/unregistered Applecare warranty (old edition) that I'd like to register with iPad Air? Is that possible to do, will that work? The Applecare box says "Applecare protection for iPad" and it says PC+mac in one corner.

Or will a new iPad Air only work with Applecare+?
