Hi Guys,

Do pardon if this is a lame question. I was able to get my Kid bro's iPhone 4 Unlocked by the At&t Unlock Procedure. His iPhone 4 run's the 5.0.1 JB custom firmware with 4.10.01 Baseband. Now ! Would updating it to 5.1 which has the new Baseband 4.12.01 retain the Unlock or would it revert back to being locked ? Or should i create a Custom Firmware that doesn't touch the now Unlocked Baseband ? And is the At&t unlock permanent ?

Thanx ...

It will retain its unlock. While it should always remain unlocked, Apple can revoke the unlock simply by removing that iPhone's unique number from the allowed unlock database. Apple has never done this as of this writing and it can be do to any iPhone, even factory unlocked ones.

The only reason I could see AT&T reversing an IMEI unlock might be if you "skipped out" on a contract you have with them since that is one of the criteria to be eligible for the unlock.
