I am trying to buy Macbook pro for the first time. Just noticed that Apple released a newer mode, should I buy this model or will be a late 2014 model which is significantly improved?
thanks

You're safe for 6 months.

If you need something now these laptops are amazing. I just bought the mid-2014 model and i'm using it now. Simply amazing!

No, Apple only does once a year update. So if you're looking to get an rMBP now is the time.

There will be no late 2014 model.

The next update will most likely be next year, when Intel launches the 47W quad core Broadwell processors. The MBP release cycle has become straightforward - a full refresh when a new CPU architecture is available and a mid-cycle refresh to bump up the processor speed (such as the refresh that was released just this week).

Best of luck!

thanks for the reply :)
so the next update will be around Jan ? since Broadwell is said to be released at the end of 2014? I just don't want to buy something that is going to be updated in few months.

I don't expect the HQ series of Broadwell processors to appear until mid-2015.

Broadwell-Y would be out in Q3/4 2014.

As yjchua said, the 28W and 47W CPUs for the 13" and 15" pros won't be out before Q2 2015. The best we can hope for is an announcement at next year's WWDC.

My macbook from '08 still works well, but it will be hard keeping it until next year to upgrade. I do not want to buy now and regret it later.

I will just hope that with the "silent" updates, Apple is going to have a major release by early 2015

Are you sure this is the only update until June(or so) next year?

Nobody knows FOR SURE. But it surely is a very good guess.

And another update in a few months? Just not gonna happen.
