You should be fine using a DisplayPort connection. Look up the specific model you're considering on Dell.com to get the manual, and go to the page that shows the connections. Check for DisplayPort. If your model also includes an HDMI connection, you can use that too.

Sorry to take so long to reply. I have 2 Dell U2412 M (1920x1080) monitors with VGA connectors. Currently, I have them hooked to a 2012 mini with adapters. One to the HDMI port the other to the thunderbolt 1 port???

My question is IF I get a 2020M1 mini how should I hook them up? And will they work properly on it??? Thanks Kenny

With an M1 Mini you have a couple of options - by all means use the HDMI port on the Mini to connect up one of the Dells - either with HDMI to DVI or HDMI to DisplayPort. Those cables are fairly inexpensive.

The other monitor will have to be connected via Thunderbolt/USB-C. A USB-C to Displayport would be best (meaning the first monitor should be probably connected with HDMI to DVI cable) - this kind of cable would be a more vintage choice by modern standards.

Be careful that you select the right kind of cable. Some are uni directional.

If you have some decent budget, a decent USB-C or Thunderbolt hub with a couple of video ports might also do the job if you seek the additional ports on the hub - eg A Caldigit TS3+ would have native DisplayPort plus a passthrough Thunderbolt 3 connector which you could add an adapter to.

newer macs prefer HDMI, so yes, any Dell with HDMI will work with mac mini (I have a desktop).
I have Dell U2722DX which in addition to HDMI, also has DP port, to which I connect DP-HDMI cable and MBA M1. Display can show even both output simultaneously.
