Other than iDVD, which I know you can't use, can DVD software such as DVD Studio Pro be used on the iBook with a combo drive?

What software do you want to know? To view DVDs or to create them? If creating, then I'm assuming you want something external. Then Toast 6 does the job I heard

To create DVDs. Would DVD Studio Pro work on it?

AFAIK ibooks don't have the option for superdrive, not even in store custom options.

you could have it added later, but i think powerbook sounds more what you want.

Do you actually need to have a superdrive built into or hooked up to the computer to run DVD Studio Pro? I know you can't with iDVD, what about the other?

Actually you can...

AFAIK, iDVD will run but you'll be able only to do a project, I guess you can save it, but it won't burn even with an external DVD writer... just like an internal issue and maybe you can transfer it to a mac with superdrive... maybe someone here has done it ... wait and see...
