Does anyone happen to have any knowledge about the question in the headline? This is just my opinion, but I find wired EarPods superior over wireless alternatives. Sure, the cable sometimes gets on the way, but there's no need to charge the EarPods ever, and they are not irreparable electric waste like wireless versions. Importantly, Apple's design is also much better than the majority of the in-ear wired earphones, at least for my ears. Given how the AirPod sound quality seems to go forward, I assume there could be some speaker-related improvements that do not depend on electronics and could be used to improve EarPods as well?

Apple didn't even bother updating their in-ear earbud to lightning.
Surely they did update them for lightning? The iPhones 7, 8 and X all shipped with lightning EarPods - I've got several pairs lying around.

But in any I think the answer to the question is surely 'no'. Apple is clearly all-in on the AirPods line at this point, and I'd be shocked if they made a significant revision to the wired ones.

I was talking about the in ear buds.

This one. Apple never updated it to lightning.

I actually find these types not so great fitting for my ears.

The current EarPods design is the most comfortable I have found for me. I am always disappointed with other shapes/designs.
