Will EyeTV Hybrid work WITHOUT Software?

So I won a new EyeTV Hybrid tuner stick off of Ebay for $80.00 and it came with all accessories...except the software.

Am I SOL and this won't work without the software, or is the software ONLY needed if I want to record? I'd love to record, that's part of the reason I got it, but I'll be more upset if it just flat out won't work without the software.

My fear is that it won't work. I haven't had a chance to try it yet though.

You need the software. Which should have come with the stick.

None that don't cost money.

It works under windows also because it's actually made by Hauppauge works.

Hmm. Okay. Well thanks for the input. Looks like I'm turning around and selling this unless he's able to send me his original activation key.
