Will Final Cut Express run smoothly?

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 13" with dual core intel processor 2.4GHz and i shoot videos in avchd format with my new canon vixia hf m31. I shoot in 1920x1080 24Mbps and 60i. Will FCE run these clips smoothly for me to edit? And what kind of external hard drive should I get for this process if it will run smoothly because I know I will need the extra space. Should I get a firewire hard drive for the speed?
