It says it will display real time locations of your friends so does that mean it will be pushing all day your location? won't that kill the battery?

Am I thinking the wrong thing about push notifications?
I am believing that push notifications are sent from the server to your phone. So essentially your phone is receiving, just like an SMS. I don't think it should affect battery life that much.

I don't think Google Latitude will be via push. Push notifications are just that - little messages. They really can't push anything besides that (like your position on a map).

Only mobileme's FindMyiPhone runs in the background and allows u to be able to pull a direction from their web interface.

Google might use push notification to get the user to open the app so that the location can be recorded.

I'm pretty sure Google Latitude is going to be/is going to be a Web App for the iPhone, which aren't capable of using the PNS.
