Will HBO NOW be available for ATV2?
Since that service has not been released yet I'm not sure why you think anyone on MacRumors would know the answer to that, especially when there has been no rumors of it being available for the AppleTV2. At this point all you would be getting would be nothing more than a guess.

My guess is that it won't. I believe the ATV2 been left out of some of the recent software updates.
According to HBO, Yes it will be available on the Apple TV in April

HBO's site does not specify which Apple TV. It only states "Apple TV". One could read that as also being the Apple TV 1, even when it is very clearly not going to be on the Apple TV 1.

All channels that have been released up to this time have been released when both the Apple TV 2 and 3 have been getting iOS updates. The more recent Apple TV iOS updates were only for the Apple TV 3. Because of this, it is not possible to discern whether or not the Apple TV 2 will receive any additional apps. However, it is very likely that there will be firmware limitations for HBO Now that will exclude the Apple TV 2 as it only runs up to iOS 7.1.2. As for your question, there are a few local specific apps that are only available for the Apple TV 3.
At least until recently, it had been possible to sell ATV2s for twice what an ATV3 costs. I'm not sure of the current market prices, but given that 2s can be jailbroken and 3s cannot, there's been an inflated resale value. I'm not sure if this has changed. I never had a desire to jailbreak mine, so the upgrade was worthwhile for that alone.
