Hi, I have a friend who can sell me 2 NIB iphones 4 with firmware 4.0.1 but i'm afraid to buy them and wont be able to activate them since apple are pushing 4.0.2.

This will be they're first time they start and will need activation. will I be able to activate and jailbreak them even tough apple is pushing 4.0.2?

thanks

You don't have to accept Apple's update. You just say no, you don't want to update. It's when you accept the update that you're going to have problems. You can also click on the dialog box that says don't ask me about updates anymore to help you refrain from any newbie mistakes in the future.
What is NIB? I googled it; unless it has something to do with a metal group, I don't quite see the relevance to iphone.

NIB = New In the Box

@OP - If i remember correctly you need to activated the phone even before iTunes can upgrade the firmware, you should be fine. Get them and eastercat said, the upgrade is not mandatory, you can just click cancel and move on.
