I haven't bought an iPhone at launch in years. Does Apple make the unlocked versions available at launch? I plan on buying whatever the "7s" ends up being called. I paid off my iPhone 6s on AT&T Next, and I would prefer just to buy a full price, unlocked phone this time around. I plan on getting the final new "iPhone 8" or whatever late 2018 / early 2019.

They normally do not sell the Apple unlocked version for a few weeks after launch. However, if you buy the VZW version outright, it is unlocked.
