I plan on buying a 17 inch MBP in a couple weeks and plan on using it basically for surfing the web and Logic Studio. Will I really need to ever switch to the 9600 card? Will I notice and kind of difference in performance? Will the 9600 only drain my battery more than the 9400 while not noticing any difference between the two on what I plan on using my MBP for? Could the 9600 be more useful once Snow Leopard comes out?

I doubt you'll ever *need* to, but you will notice a difference in performance (and battery life).

I keep mine in 9400M for extensive CS4 work and it performs perfectly, so I can't imagine Logic Studio grinding to a halt because of the 9400.

I don't think you'll need a high end graphics card to run music production software. If you never need to use the 9600 and if you are okay with a smaller screen size, maybe the 13" unibody Macbook will be a better choice for you.

You'll save money, and the Macbook is way easier to carry around. If you really need a larger screen, maybe use the money you saved on a 24" cinema display for your home or office.

When Snow Leopard comes out with OpenCL you might notice a difference in a demanding application like Logic.

I would say if you don't mind the small screen, then go for a macbook and a cinema display (as posted above). If you rather have a larger screen and wouldn't mind compromising, go for the 15" mbp. You will save money and still get a nice screen size. I have a 15" mbp and find it to be the perfect size. 1440 X 900 is great, the 13.3" runs at 1200 X 800.
