I bought my 13 inch before Mavericks had been released so it came with Mountain Lion. Chose not to upgrade to Mavericks because of all the problems I've heard about it.

I'm thinking of upgrading to Yosemite, however if I should encounter any problems or don't like it would I be able to easily downgrade back to Mountain Lion?

Well Mavericks isn't buggy anymore.. Its very stable version.. Well Yosemite still has a couple of UI bugs and a very annoying Wi-Fi bug that they try to solve in the 10.10.2 update. And I can tell from the public beta it getting a lot better! But if you are afraid of bugs etc I would stay with Mountain Lion for a while till the Public Release of 10.10.2, and then upgrade.

You won't find Mountain Lion in the App Store so unless you have an installable copy on a disc or a USB drive, your other option is something like cloning your hard drive. Not "easy" but it can be done.
