I just ordered a 512 ram chip for my 1 ghz powerbook, bringing it up to 768. Will I see a noticable difference in performance? I ordered it from www.crucial.com , I have heard good things about them. Thanks

yes. things should run much smoother with 768 MB as opposed to 256 MB. with increased memory, your HD will be used less as a scratch disk.

i know this is more of an extreme case, but my 1 GHz eMac went from beachballing left and right with 128 MB to smooth sailing by adding a 512 MB stick.

256 MB is probably the bare min. for OS X...

I use it for design work suck as photoshop, illustrator and some video editing

for OS X, RAM is supposed to make all the difference in speed. the system will access the slow hard drive less and access the fast memory more. memory is about a million times the speed of the hard drive. ppl always recommend as much as you can get.
