Would I see the performance differences between the two 24" iMac running Aperture, photoshop elements, mail and safari.

Yes it's a good choice, but it won't help you with Aperture.

Yeah he's right. It will still be good with Aperture but slightly slower than the 2600 just because its a Radeon and thats what they're for. But the 8600 is a far superior card in everything else and when better drivers come out it will perform better.

are you saying the geforce is going to be slower for aperture? i though it meant to be a faster card

it has far superior hardware, but it doesn't seem to be optimized for apple's pro apps, so it performs the same as or slightly worse than the radeon 2600. Where it really shows its potential is in 3d gaming. Hopefully apple will work on the drivers so it shines on pro apps as well, but it hasn't happened yet.

at the moment it is slower for simple rendering only because the current drivers for is are tremendously horrible...expect to get full use of the nvidia once snow leopard is released.

What would you guys advise me to do then? WHich should i get?

I also own a MBP 2.16GHZ 128 MB GFX 4gb Memory at the moment. Should I wait longer?

You would see a performance difference. But only if you placed the two machines side by side. The 2.8 GHz w/ Radeon HD 2600 should be plenty fast enough and with the money you save, you could put it towards buying your next computer sooner and you'll be able to buy more with it.

INSIGHTS
The GeForce 8800 GS option for the new Penryn iMac is a welcome addition -- especially for 3D OpenGL apps like games. At 1920x1200 High Quality on the 24" iMac, it doubles the frame rates for most games.

But if you are using it for Core Image based Pro Apps, as you can see from the iMaginator graph, it won't provide much of a gain if any. That may change as driver improvements are made. If so, we'll pass on the good news.
