Will iMessages wait for wifi?

Hi
I'm going on a cruise that offers wifi for a crazy hourly rate. If I want to stay in touch with iMessages and turn on the wifi just a couple of times a day to check will iMessages save any messages and download them to me when the wifi is on? Any idea how long I should give it?

In my experience it will. It takes a couple minutes but my messages would begin to come in in the order they were sent (with valid timestamps).

Thanks much. Good to know that they will come through. My wife's mom has some health issues so she will be glad to know we will still be in touch.
