Will installing carrier update on factory unlocked phone affect it?

I have a factory unlocked 3GS. Will installing carrier updates affect it being unlocked? TIA.
 
If it is factory unlocked, i.e. you bought it unlocked or the carrier you were on unlocked it, yes you can run the carrier update without any worries.

Thanks! Yes it was bought carrier unlocked from Apple. Are there any benefits to installing a carrier update or should I just ignore the prompts?
