Will we continue to get security updates for 6 or will an upgrade to 7 be mandatory in the name of preventing fragmentation?

Once iOS 7 comes out there probably won't be any updates for iOS 6. That's the way they've always done it.

Apple generally doesn't issue security updates for old versions of iOS. Depending on the number of active devices that can't upgrade from iOS 6, we could see a security update if needed but don't count on it.

iOS 4.3 is still being support
Oh? When was the last time you saw an update for 4.3? You can still get apps that run on 4.3, but a lot of apps are now requiring iOS 5 and and some have started to require iOS 6.

It's extremely unlikely that you'd see any device supported by iOS 7 get an updated version of iOS 6.

It might get to the point that Apple decides it's worth releasing a very minor update (security or serious bug fixes) for older devices - like the iPhone 3GS.

Sigh. I hope Apple makes the font in 7 more readable, because I've watched the online demos on apple.com and everything seems harder to read than in 6.

You can scale the text smaller or larger in the settings

Oh good. I don't like a lot of the new color scheme but it won't make the phone unusable. Small font would have been really hard on my eyes. As long as I can change the font size and boldness I should be ok.

Thanks, this makes me less worried now.

They bolded many fonts in Beta3. It's being adjusted while in beta.

What apps absolutely require iOS 6 that are third-party?

Most of the apps in the app store support 4.3 and almost all support 5.0.

oneSafe, 1Password and Day One all require iOS 6.0. I know I've seen others, but I don't remember which.

Yeah I hope iOS 6 is still accepted for a while.

Gonna be weary of iOS 7, even after an untethered jailbreak comes out.

Just because my current config runs so well, and I can't imagine some of the small time tweaks ever getting updated.

The big ones, yes. But after waiting too.

I feel your pain. That's one of the big issues about being jailbroken. I'm personally looking forward to upgrading to iOS 7 once all the major bugs get worked out and it's jailbroken but I'm sure that some of the tweaks that I use on a daily basis aren't going to get updated and I'm going to have to adjust. It took me a while to get my phone tweaked to the point where I'm happy. It's going to suck to have to do that again.

This. so much.

I have done a lot of manual editing of Themes and iFile stuff, so much so I've probably forgotten by now about a chunk of it and take it for granted.

You could wait for the initial feedback after iOS 7 is in general release before you decide between upgrading to it or waiting for the first update to iOS 7 before upgrading.

I plan to wait a bit myself before upgrading. My iPhone works incredibly well with iOS 6. I am wary of going to a completely reworked OS because I think there are always issues that need to be ironed out.
