Hi,

I know the retina is a hair thicker than the original iPad mini, so just wondering if anybody who has a retina mini in hand has tried an original mini case on it?

Thanks.

Some do, it fact I'd probably bet many of them do ... my cheap "Poetic" Mini1 case fits my new Mini2 but you can tell it's "just not quite right" which was why I ordered a new one (for $8 it was cheap enough). I think a lot of them will fit both models depending on how they hold the Mini2. The Poetic would be (IMO) the hardest to fit due to how it snaps on the pad, yet it sort-of does. It's good enough for the interim.

it's a 1 mm difference so probably most will stretch a bit and fit. Some higher end cases will probably get new molds for the rMini though.

The Speck back shell available at the Apple Store fits perfectly, which is good because I prefer the 2-piece solution of a Smart Cover and lightweight rear shell to the Smart Case anyway.

I concur that the hard plastic back shells (like the poetic) will not fit the new mini retina. Poetic is releasing new ones for the "mini 2" as they call it.

My Speck Candyshell for the original mini fits my retina mini just fine. I wasn't expecting it to, so it was a nice surprise.

I use mine naked.

I mean, I do not like to use a case at all.

I have a leather sleeve from Saddleback Leather to carry it in, but for using the device, I am trying to avoid covering it in plastic or any other material. It is soooooooo nice....

And got AppleCare+ just in case....

I was thinking of getting a Smart Cover compatible hard back, but I'll go naked too. I've just bought a custom sleeve from etsy that fits the iPad with the Smart Cover.
