will iphone at&t unlocked work globally

i have found a good deal in amazon on iphone 3gs at&t phone without carrier contract (unlocked). Now i stay in india and i want to buy this phone. So, will indian networks(sim card ) work with this at&t unlcoked phone or should i go for factory unlocked phone. And is there any where i can find good deals on used iphones .

once it is unlocked it stays unlocked. So you should be fine as long the network is compatible.
