Will it be the iPhone 4GS or iPhone 5?

Either way I am ordering it the day it ships, :D .

Who the hell cares? You answered that yourself which is no one ;) Doesn't matter what is called hardware and any changes that are made will be the same no matter what the name of the phone is. But if you have to know iPhone 5.

I have information from a very trusted source that says it will be called the iPhone 5. Apple has moved away from adding an s or any other names.

*my trusted source is myself.

OK there bud, next time try trolling another thread. ;)

lol i've really had it with this debate. It will be called iPhone 5. You really have to think of the logistics behind why the 3GS was called what it was.

- The original iPhone was just called "iPhone" and used 2G networking.
- The iPhone 3G was called such because Apple wanted to emphasize the fact that it had 3G networking. Additionally, calling it the "iPhone 2" would also skirt towards implying it only had 2G networking; hence the name.
- the 3GS was called such because calling it "iPhone 3" - despite being the 3rd iPhone - would only confuse customers because there was already a phone called "iPhone 3G".
- iPhone 4 was given its true chronological name because the naming contention of the previous versions was finally finished and dealt with.
- The fifth iPhone will be called "iPhone 5" because much like its predecessor there are no naming contention issues that prevent it from being named as such.

I'd bet dollars to donuts it will be called 5 and not 4S, 4GS, or any other silly derivative of 4. :apple:

Funny enough, recently i've been seeing more articles coined "iPhone 5" than the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4GS garbage.
Obviously it's the 5th Generation iPhone, and so iPhone 5 is the best suited name until the official name is released.

iPhone = iPhone 1
iPhone 3G = iPhone 2
iPhone 3Gs = iPhone 3
iPhone 4 = iPhone 4
iPhone 5 = iPhone 5
iPhone 6 = iPhone 6

or..
iPhone 4S = iPhone 5?
iPhone 5 = iPhone 6?

The iPhone 3GS was more of a placeholder as a name, because marketing wise, consumers want to see more in the product than less. So it wouldn't make sense to go from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3.

The iPhone 4S term was coined by some random developer who was testing out an iPhone 4 with a Dual Core A5 chip for their app, and a lot of people blew it out of proportion.
Also, all the iPhone 4 owners who are filled with buyers remorse want the next iPhone to be a minimal upgrade to still feel 'new'.

Also..
A4 chip, iOS 4, 4th generation iPhone = iPhone 4
A5 chip, iOS 5, 5th generation iPhone = probably iPhone 5

I find it hilarious when I read an article that says that the iPhone 4S is coming this fall and the iPhone 5 will be released early next year.

I think it will be called iPhone 5. It definitely won't be 4GS because from what I've seen, the next iPhone won't have 4G and that name would be misleading. If anything it will be called the 4S.

They can name it whatever they want but I'm planing on buying it regardless of the name, my gut says iPhone 4s are something similar

There really needs to be a separate section for people that seem to ask this question every 18.4 hours without reading the other 4,389 posts with the same FREAKIN question.

We shall wait for Apple themselves to announce it

One of these days there will be a momentary lapse of reason and a saucerful of secrets will run like hell outside the wall at Apple(s and oranges). It's just a matter of time and money.

Oh, and you can have it any colour you like.

(Apologies to the uninitiated :D I'll get on my bike  )
