Yet this topic is still one of the most discussed here in the forum. Many people (myself included) plan to buy a new machine and are cautious and follow the threads. I just want to get an impression of how "bad" the situation really is. Yes I know, each crash is one crash to much.

I want to point out that this is supposed to address all kind of crashes/problems you have with your MBP. I hope that it is just a small number damaged compared to the overall people who bought a machine and that we subjectively think that many machines are broken.

So please vote if your run's smoothly or if you have any problem which was not solved after restart etc.

and yes the name is an homage on "will it blend?" :p

Smoothly so far. Did nothing special with it like wiping and reinstalling the OS. Just took it out of the box, set up like new, then transferred over my files from an external drive. I thought I might've had an issue once, where the speakers crackled when a Discord notification played a sound while I was watching a Youtube video, but that only happened the one time and never came up again.

Keyboard is working great, all ports are fine, overall very pleased. 2018 15" 2.6/16/512/560X

Have installed both updates, partitioned the hard drive with BootCamp and installed Windows 10 Pro and not a single glitch. None.

I word of warning to those who install the updates. The screen will go blank for a painfully long time, do not mess with your laptop while this happens, it will reboot ready to go with no help m

15" i9 16GB of RAM model here, got mine since a week after launch and no problems, neither KPs nor any other problems related to the hardware. I barely ever turn my MBP completely off and usually just put it to sleep overnight and when not using it, and it hasn't crashed on me even once during all of it (and most of these BridgeOS-caused crashes seem to appear while the MBP is in sleep, from what I've gathered).

Am I allowed to vote 5x "no", since that is the number of 2018 computers we bought and all of them are issue-free?

Both of the 2.6/16/512/560x's I've had have not had any issues (the 1st one had 1 KP). I only replaced the 1st one for a price reduction buying elsewhere. Amazon doesn't price match nor price protect so sent the 1st one back...

I've had only one kernel panic in almost a month's time, and that was before the recent firmware patch. After that, nothing but smooth sailing. Very nice machine, I like mine a LOT. It's so small and portable (13"), yet performs very well, even in casual gaming situations.

Thanks for all people who voted by now. I hope we got some more to get a clearer overview on the current situation.

Right now it is clear that most likely one is lucky to get a good one

2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 had Staingate and that was solved, 2016s had Slowgate and Chipgate and Keyboardgate and that was solved, 2017s had Keyboardgate to a smaller extent and that was also solved, 2018s have Heatgate and Crashgate and Speakergate and Coilwhinegate and Kernelpanicgate.

I'm really surprised Apple sells Macs at all, given that 100% of them certainly come from the factory ridden with all sorts of defects.

Just realize your survey "results" will be essentially meaningless.

Self-selected survey respondents (*1) from a non-representative population (*2) essentially gives garbage data that can't be extrapolated to the general population with any statistical validity.

*1 - You only get votes from the people who felt strongly enough about it to bother voting -- and you have no verification that respondents are truthful or own the system in question. This will tend to skew the results strongly to the negative since folks experiencing an issue are far more likely to take the time to vote in your poll.

*2 - MR readers tend to be enthusiasts and/or folks coming here to find help with a problem. This tends to overpopulate the MR readership with (a) people more sensitive to things that may be a non-issue for most folks and (b) people who actually have an issue and arrived here looking for help. In other words, the folks here are not really representative of the overall population of owners.

To add to my post above, the system I just purchased from Best Buy ended up being exchanged today. The battery would never fully charge even after recalibrating it, the fans would go on and off nonstop and the temps would spike all over the place. That system had a 7/2/18 manufacturing date. The exchanged computer is running flawless! Manufacturing date 8/13/18. This one performs just like the 1 I just returned to Amazon.

I returned mine today, unit #3. I had the same issue as you with the fans constantly going on and temps spiking, even with stupid stuff like syncing my phone.

I did not have the battery issue you did, but did have a couple instances of keys not registering. Before someone says something about dust or food or something else getting under them. No. I don’t eat anywhere near it, my home isn’t dusty and have an expensive dust filter due to allergies and it’s less than two weeks old. No, it isn’t dust or crumbs. Not sure what the issue is, but it has done it to me a few times and I am not happy or comfortable with it

I agree with your points. I'm aware of the fact that clearly the majority of people who actually make a post are the ones who have complaints.

And yes I agree as well that this is not "THE POLL" which represents the overall situation. However I think it can give a small indication, as many people are concerned about buying a machine that almost each piece is broken. Because when you look over the threads, you just read complaints. The goal was to show the people that not each machine is broken. Because it is a difference if you read now and then "oh, mine is working perfectly fine" and or if you can see on a graphic illustration that actually the majority is fine.

I don't wanted to write a thesis about this matter.

Cheers.

Yes -- those with complaints have a bone to pick. Those without complaints are generally busy just using their systems and focusing their attention somewhere other than this forum.

I'm hanging out in this subforum since I have a MBP15 on order, so it's top-of-mind to me.

I've had a Mac Mini for several years. Can't remember the last time I visited that forum. Same for my 2015 retina Macbook. I'm not experiencing any issues with those systems and I have no questions about them, so why would I spend time there?

FYI this is relatively common with nearly every release. Go back to prior system releases and you'll see a similar pattern of <picksomething>gate. Phones, computers, ipads.

The cycle generally goes thus:
  1. Announcement
  2. Excitement
  3. Decision Making (which one do I buy?)
  4. Complaining / <picksomething>gate
  5. Relative Normalcy
  6. Speculation - do I buy now or wait?
