I know in order to make the video output of the touch to work you have to have the right cable. I also know that the rca cables have to be special. I have an ipod dock with both rca outputs and an S video output....would this work? Any of you have a similar dock? Does anyone have the composite connected to an HD TV? is the picture quality worth it? thanks

From what I've read, the iPod Touch no longer has the circuitry (as compared with previous generations) to generate a true S-Video output. It can, however, do composite and component output.
Also from what I've read, the original Universal Dock (that's the one I think you're describing) cannot produce even composite video output when used in conjunction with an iPod Touch.
The new Universal Dock, on the other hand, doesn't even make an attempt to route video signals into any of its own dedicated video ports; it simply thru-routes the video signals from the iPod's dock connector directly into the same pins its rear dock connector. Apparently, the only option supported by Apple is to use one of the two new A/V dock connector cables - one is available for composite video, and one for component video.
Yea I had to buy the cable at best buy for 50 dls, I asked apple for a refund on the apps and got it so....apple got me for 30dls. I just bought a sony 1080 hd set and plugged it right up and downloaded rattatuie and It looks nice, not HD nice but 720 nice. I wonder if the itouch can support 1080 resolution on the output using the AV apple cables, I know the cables a physically capable but can the image be downloaded as a 1080 video? uhm anyway I ungutted the old ipod dock and pulled the penis prong and replaced it with the apple one and glued it from the inside of the stand and now I have a stand for the Ipod, send me your email and Ill send you a picture.
