I'm just wondering if this is okay (to leave it plugged in all the time when using an external monitor). I would assume it is, as with a Thunderbolt 3 monitor you wouldn't have a choice (as the display cable would also be providing power and charge to the Mac).

Mine is plugged in all the time.. What I do every 3 months or so is deplete the battery and then charge it back up. I am no battery expert but have been told doing this will keep the battery in better shape overall...

The battery doesn't like being plugged in 24/7/365. Use it on battery every once in a while and run it down a little bit.
