I bought Lion and even though I'm eligible for a free ML on my 2012 MBP I still have to purchase it for my other Macs.

Just curious if both app will show up in the App store after a computer is upgraded to ML? If they both display, what happens if your running ML and try to install Lion?

I'm guessing that one ML is released, Lion will be removed. Who would pay $30 for Lion when you could pay $20 for ML? It would just lead to unnecessary confusion.

Or if Lion needs to stay there for some reason, it could just be labeled as "installed" which would prevent you from trying to download it.

Lion supports more systems than does ML. Why would they remove it?

Legally it has to stay in there. What if someone has bought it previously and needs to reinstall it? Also some people like to stay a version behind because it's typically more compatible with various types of hardware and software as it has been out longer.

I could maybe be a little bit OT with this one, but I'm wondering what is better for someone who is about to buy a Mac right now :

1) wait till ML shows up so the Mac comes directly with the new OS

or

2) buy the Mac right now to get Lion and upgrading to ML in a couple of weeks just to be able to downgrade to Lion (just in case, you never know)

You can still downgrade if you buy a Mac that comes preloaded with ML, if it has been available before the launch of ML (namely all Macs today). So basically both are the same.
