hello, oh knowledgeable community :)
i'm just about to order my new home cinema system for my xmas present. In this order, i need an optical cable. however, i have a choice between 2 metres and 5 metres of length. The 5m one would be ideal so that i can use my laptop with it on my bed, but i was wondering if the longer length decreases quality of sound? cause i know that really long VGA cables cause quality decrease and some Digital interfaces get quality loss, but im quite unsure. if someone could give me some clarity on this that would be great. And fast too, i need to order this tonight :D (im in the uk) :)

Shouldn't make a difference with optical cabling. Anyhow, those are both extremely short cables. When people are talking about signal quality decrease due to length, we're not talking the difference between 2m and 5m; it's more the difference between 5m and 70m.

The optical cable is digital - you're not going to see any signal loss between 2 and 5 meters.
