God willing, no. Does anyone believe that even if they did that:

1. They could compete with anything IBM could throw at them. For god sake IBM has some of the most advanced fab plants on the planet.

2. Jobs and Apple got burned by Moto in a big way. The G5 was the first breath of fresh air that Apple has had in a long time. Fool me once........ I personally think we are likely to see a new Newton before they even consider going back to Moto.

3. Moto talks big with their specs but never releases anything in mass quantity or pushes back a release date further and further. IMHO again, they are liars or can't get their act together.

The 7457-RM will be out "real soon," just trust in Mother Motorola.

They sell their embedded processors for network hardware, as well. It's usually less demanding because there's no operating system, so the low clock speeds don't matter as much.

As many mistakes as they've made in each market, it's a wonder they're still in business. Of course, that's how it was with them in the 1960s too.

Apple isn't that big a customer for Motorola. Motorola's real strength is in the embedded market, both with the G4, and with their dragonball (68k) chip series. Moto's going to keep making chips, but I'm not sure what (if anything) they've got lined up for Apple.
