I have a white 2nd gen Macbook. It is the late 2006 version with a Core 2 Duo processor. Will Mountain Lion work on it? I heard that some old machines will not be able to upgrade.

If you go to the ML page on Apple's site, you'll find this. Not very difficult to pull up...

Your machine is likely unsupported due to it's extremely weak GMA 950 graphics chip. Everything I've read online has mentioned beefier graphic requirements for ML, and that would mean killing off the Macs with GMA 950 and GMA X3100.

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
