Hi all, here's my problem:

My iPhone is on iOS 8, iOS 8 requires the latest iTunes, the latest iTunes requires my OS X to be at least Lion, I'm at Snow Leopard.

I'm afraid to upgrade to Lion because my friend upgraded her iPhone from iOS 5 to iOS 8 and it bricked her phone so she had to buy a new one.

Is it safe to upgrade from snow leopard to lion? Sorry I'm just paranoid it might brick my laptop, thanks in advance.

Very safe. As with any upgrade, make sure you have a full backup before starting. I've done every OS upgrade on my 2011 with no issues.

It should be absolutely fine.

Keep in mind that the 2011 MacBook is more than capable of running OS X Yosemite.

With that in mind, any reason that you wouldn't upgrade straight to Yosemite?
