Will my UNactivated .Mac switch over to MobileMe?

I have a .mac account, opened out of the box, BUT never went online to activate it since I heard rumors of something new in the wind at that time. Does anyone know if I can take that in, switch it out or anything for the new MobileME? or do i install it like normal and it automatically switches over?
