Will O2 unlock my 3GS officially? How much will it run me?

Right, I shall soon be selling my 3GS to buy a certain other Apple branded phone.

Before I do so, I want to know if O2 will officially unlock my iPhone 3GS, and for how much? I got it almost a year ago on pay as you go.

I did try Googling and searching the forum, BTW, but I found a lot of conflicting information and a lot more results that were simply irrelevant.
