So, if I take my 500 GB Samsung drive out of my MBP and slap it in the new MBP will it work? Isn't there some custom software that is needed with the newer MBP's and will software update prompt you for that later?

You might have a problem with OS X, I know when I got my old MBP repaired and the motherboard was changed I needed to reinstall OS X. Since the new MBP has entirely different internals I would not recommend it.

However, you could try put in the drive and do an archive and install of OS X, which should keep all your data. NOTE: some applications like Adobe CS need to be reinstall after this.

As for software update, I don't think you will even get to that point safely, also the new system info is probably only on the included recovery disks at this point.
