They already have. Original iPhone and iPhone 3G won't officially run iOS4 (although it's do-able if you jailbreak). No idea if you can get iOS5 on the older phones, but even if you could it would run like molasses.

i mean eventually they gotta take full potential of the dual processor

Yes. Apple will discontinue support for older iPhones in the future.

iPhone 2007 support ended in mid 2010. iPhone 3G ended in the fall 2010 (they were basically almost same phone/hardware anyways.

The iPhone 3G officially runs iOS 4 through 4.2.1. The oldest iPhone that can get iOS 5 is the 3Gs and it runs it very well.

Sorry, yes, you are correct. Was thinking of things like background images and multitasking which are turned off on the 3G by default but can still be hacked on.

Eventually all older devices will stop receiving firmware updates.
And it makes sense, once the hardware gets outdated its pointless trying to run new software on it and have the phone run slow as hell.

I hate EBAY....So I rationalize that I'm using it as a spare.....Am I wrong?

Well you don't need to sell it at eBay you can do it at Craigslist :D, and spare I don't know I usually don't have a spare with me , I know I have a 3GS somewhere but I can't find it
