Now that we have a solid state home button and Touch id on our iPhones will the next ipads or iPod touches, follow? Im sure the iPads will not be water resistant ip67 or anything but will they still do it? Should they?

I'm sure the iPad will, but maybe not the iPod Touch (it doesn't even have Touch ID).
Just look at how the rMBP 13" got the force touch trackpad. The original idea of the force touch trackpad was to save space for the retina Macbook. The rMBP has plenty of space, but Apple still did it anyway. (but the Macbook Air didn't)
I think it's great to have a consistent feature amongst the lineup.
