Hello again,
I had a some extra cash laying here, and I went with getting myself a used 06'
Intel Xserve with dual 2.0 Xeons. Yes I am aware of the noise and that it is a 1U server box with the size of a coffee table. I am getting one that is from a website giving them away for like 300 bucks. (the model I am getting is 139 bucks) So I will get an adapter for the mini dvi to a dvi port, but I came across an ebay sale of a Mac compatible, native radeon HD 2400xt. I do not intend for any sort of graphics intense stuff, just to setup a dual display setup with a samsung syncmaster 1920x1080 and an LG Flatron L1953T 1280x1024.
I am aware that it is a pc (Dell) card and that it has a dms-59 port and an s-video port. I will be grabbing a dms-59 to dual dvi-i for 4 bucks. I will use the integrated x1300 with my lg as the efi bootscreen display, and the other video card with the 1920x1080 syncmaster.Yes The radeon hd 2400xt is pc so It will not show the bootscreen until the actual osx gui appears. It doesnt matter as long as it can work in the gui of osx. the card is 10 bucks. Do you think the s-video port will work?(I dont think so) and that the dms-59 will work?(likely) or that the card will even have quartz extreme ?(It came default with some 08 and 07 imacs, so I dont think the card will fail) And yes the xserve has a pcie slot limit of 25 watts, and I looked up some tdps online and it says max 19.1 volts under 2d full, and like 20 for 3d. lowest load its like 14 watts so i think i will be fine. Or does the pcie slot actually give 25 watts at start and then 75 as said by the pcie standard when the card is loaded with drivers? I will be running mavericks or mountain lion through mlpostfactor for the latter and the mac pro method _which actually works with any mac with xeon and all macs) for the mavericks. I am aware of the efi 32 bit but I dont really care long as it works.
Greetz all,
