Well it was an impulse buy at the last second in the auction so now hopefully it will work in my G4 quicksilver. Anybody know for sure if it will or did I have to buy one with the Apple firmware on it? I hear people installing Pioneer drives all the time so I'm crossing my fingers LOL. Thanks.

If so, I plan on picking up a Dual 1.8 G5 PowerMac so I will be switching it to that one since this is the faster burner. While the ones in the G5's were only 4x, right?

Thanks.

It depends on which version of OS X that you're running more then anything else.

10.4.11 should support it but I can more then guarantee 10.5.x has full support. At worst it'll just be a ATAPI DVD-ROM.

Thank you for the fast reply!

I only have Tiger ATM but if I pick up the G5, I will more then likely buy Leopard too then since the G5 only comes with it's original pre-X.5 software.

Anyways I guess I'll know for sure in a few days anyways, right. :p

It'd be helpful to know which Macs shipped with a DVR-108BK and what version of OS X they ran. If you have a later version then it is going to work perfectly.

AFAIK, this drive is not Apple OEM. I have used non-OEM optical drives in Macs before but never DVD burners.

You will have no problem using the 108 drive in your QS- I think I had a 110 in the QS I sold last year. If you experience any difficulties whatsoever using it, download the free utility PatchBurn to provide system-level support for it.

I just hope you did not pay very much for it though- as DVR 116s which are the current 20x DL Pioneer burners are, unbelievably, only $30 new at newegg.com! ;)
